March 2012 Conference Registration

Establishing an Integrated Human Development & Residential Life Program

Boarding schools provide a perfect opportunity to talk about the important personal, social, sexual, health, advising, and ethical issues facing our students - if we could only find the time!  This workshop will help you coordinate various human development, health, seminar, and residential life programs into one integrated program that fits your school's needs and schedule.  Special attention will be paid to training and supporting the teaching and dorm staff that will make this program successful.

You will leave this workshop with a concrete model for how to establish a new program or integrate current school programs as well as resources for engaging and training your faculty.  In order to get to take full advantage of this time, it is strongly recommended that each school send a team of two or more. A special rate is available to help make this possible.

Issues covered will include information and guides for faculty/staff training in the following areas:

Challenges and Changes in Adolescence

Adolescent Sexuality and Relationships

Parents and Family Dynamics

Drug and Alcohol Use

Love and Friendship

Stress and Perfectionism

The Impact of Technology on Adolescence and Community

Character, Ethics, and Personal Choices

Spirituality and the Bigger Picture

The format for this workshop will be interactive and flexible enough to create an excellent dialogue on these and other issues that you would like to address with your students.

This workshop will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Durango, Colorado.  Sessions will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, March 28.  Sessions will end at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 31.  Participants can fly directly into Durango La Plata Airport on United, Frontier, American and US Air Airlines. Transportation will be provided to the hotel.   Dress for the conference will be informal and comfortable. Participants will be housed in a single room; breakfast and lunch will be provided during the workshop.
